Florida and Fuzhou researchers identify cells responsible for acupuncture’s analgesic effects. The researchers determined that acupuncture exerts a regulatory effect on microglial cells. The researchers determined that acupuncture reduces neuropathic pain by downregulation microglial activation. The research team consists of members from the University of South Florida (Dept. Neurosurgery & Brain Repair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences) and the Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Fuzhou).

Acupuncture has been proven effective for the treatment of hip region degeneration due to avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH). This is a condition wherein the upper parts of the thigh bone degenerate leading to hip, back, or groin pain. There may be difficulty walking, limping, and unevenness of the legs. ANFH results from inadequate blood circulation to the femur bone, which results in bone cell death and collapse of the femoral head.

acupuncture ceu dysmenorrhea cv6

Acupuncture alleviates menstrual pain. Pinglu Hospital researchers conducted a controlled clinical trial comparing the efficacy of warm needle acupuncture and Chinese moxibustion versus ibuprofen for the relief of menstrual related discomfort. The acupuncture group outperformed the drug group with a total efficacy rate of 95.24% for the treatment of dysmenorrhea. [1]

Acupuncture plus electroacupuncture has been proven effective for the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis (PFP). This condition is also termed Bell’s palsy. In a recent study, researchers from Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Clinical Medical College of Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Rehabilitation) conducted a clinical experiment. They compared warm needle acupuncture monotherapy with warm needle acupuncture plus electroacupuncture. The combined treatment protocol demonstrated superior patient outcomes. [1]

Acupuncture demonstrates clinical efficacy in relieving symptoms for patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Researchers from Ruzhou Jiren Diabetes Hospital and First People's Hospital of Ruzhou conducted a clinical study and analyzed the effects of two treatment protocols. The results show that the integral approach of combining warm needle acupuncture with vitamin B-12 supplements outperforms vitamin B-12 monotherapy. [1]

Acupuncture is effective for alleviating depression. Researchers investigated the efficacy of adding acupuncture to standard drug therapy protocols. The results show increased response to treatment with lower levels of depression and overall symptoms.

acupuncture gv16 cervicogenicheadache

Acupuncture is effective for regulating levels of inflammatory cytokines and relieving discomfort and pain in patients with cervicogenic headaches. Researchers from Beijing Anzhen Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University and Shandong Shengli Oilfield Hospital conducted a clinical trial comparing the efficacy of electro -warm needle acupuncture and regular warm needle acupuncture. The electro -warm needle acupuncture treatment yielded superior patient outcomes. [1]

acupuncture neck spondy917

Acupuncture is effective for treating cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type (CSA). This disorder is characterized by pain caused by intervertebral disc degeneration plus insufficient vertebral-basal artery blood supply caused by the degenerative changes in the cervical spine.

acupuncture spinal isci

Acupuncture is effective for treating incomplete spinal cord injury (iSCI). Researchers from Zhengzhou First People’s Hospital conducted a clinical trial comparing the efficacy of routine physical therapy with routine care plus acupuncture. The results show that the addition of acupuncture improves movement restoration for patients. Upon completion of the study, the total efficacy rate for the acupuncture plus physical therapy group was 86.36% while the routine care group’s was 68.18%. The results indicate that an integrative medicine approach to patient care improves patient outcomes.

Acupuncture long covidrelief

Acupuncture eliminates long COVID symptoms at a high percentage rate. Research demonstrates that acupuncture improves breathing and cognitive function while reducing pain levels and fatigue. The research is consistent with the findings from related investigations.

acupuncture top3 2022

Acupuncture research and breaking news continues at an ever increasing rate. This summer, three new investigations demonstrate that acupuncture has an important role in integrative medicine. Research demonstrates the effectiveness of acupuncture for the alleviation of sepsis and long COVID-19. In addition, acupuncture has been shown to reduce knee pain and range of motion impairment.

acupuncture ceus sideeffectschemo

Acupuncture is effective for reducing side effects caused by chemotherapy. In one investigation, true acupuncture outperformed sham acupuncture for cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting. In another two independent investigations, the addition of acupuncture to chemotherapy improved white blood cell count and boosted immune function for cancer patients.

acupuncture ceus shiqi disc herniation

Acupuncture is effective for relieving symptoms and upregulating β-endorphin levels in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Researchers from Heping Hospital affiliated with Zhangzhi Medical School conducted a clinical trial on the efficacy of treating lumbar disc herniation with manual and warm needle acupuncture. The warm needle acupuncture group presented superior patient outcomes. [1]

The results show that range of motion exercises during acupuncture increase shoulder mobility and flexibility while reducing overall pain levels. [1]

acupuncture ceu TFCC

Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of wrist, hand, and forearm pain and mobility impairment due to moderate triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injury. The TFCC is comprised of tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connect the bones of the forearm and wrist. Tears and other forms of damage to the TFCC result in localized pain and decreased mobility of the wrist, hand, and forearm. Key components of the TFCC susceptible to injury are the triangular fibrocartilage disc, radioulnar ligaments, extensor carpi ulnaris sheath, ulnomeniscal homologue, and ulnar collateral ligament.

acupuncture long covid 714

Acupuncture is found effective for relieving long COVID symptoms. Medical professionals and researchers find acupuncture effective in facilitating recovery from COVID-19, including the alleviation of chest oppression, coughing, nasal congestion, headaches, fatigue, and the restoration of taste and smell. Acupuncture increases the total effective rate of the drug moxifloxacin for the relief of sepsis. Researchers from the Guang'anmen Affiliated Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Science combined acupuncture with standard drug therapy. Patients receiving both moxifloxacin injections and acupuncture in a combined treatment protocol had superior patient outcomes compared with patients receiving only moxifloxacin. The researchers conclude that the addition of acupuncture to a moxifloxacin treatment regimen reduces body temperature, mitigates inflammatory responses, and improves immune system function in patients with pneumonia-induced sepsis by activating the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway.
