Dental Health Seminars and Practice Management

Dentists are vital as primary health care physicians.  The oral cavity is both an indicator and an integral aspect of local and systemic health.  Routine exams and dental procedures are fundamental to good health and longevity.  Studies such as ‘Dental Disease and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease Disease and Mortality’ (BMJ . 1993 Mar 13;306(6879):688-91) conclude that periodontal disease and poor oral hygiene are directly linked to coronary heart disease.  The research linking dental health to quality systemic health is extensive.  In one study, periodontal disease is linked to an increased risk for cerebrovascular disease and CVA’s (Arch Intern Med. 2000 Oct 9;160(18):2749-55).  In another study, periodontal disease is a factor in renal insufficiency (Am J Kidney Dis. 2005 Apr;45(4):650-7).

The Healthcare Medicine Institute (HealthCMI) recognizes that dentists often spend more quality time with an individual patient on an annual basis than, in many cases, any other type of doctor that a patient may seek for medical attention.  The dental office visit is an opportunity to provide a host of products and services to patients to improve the quality and longevity of their lives.  Starting in mid-2008, HealthCMI will present courses for dental continuing education online featuring dental products, services, and dental procedures that reduce inflammatory and infectious diseases.  HealthCMI will also introduce courses emphasizing screening devices for early detection of potentially harmful disease processes. Finally, HealthCMI will introduce dental continuing education courses that spotlight preventative medicine and its integration into dental practice management.

The smooth flow of a dental practice will be addressed in its role to fulfill the healthcare needs of patients.  From restorative and cosmetic dentistry to physical medicine, a variety of important tools and procedures integrated into the workflow of a dental practice are covered in HealthCMI continuing education courses so that a dental practice can fully utilize the power of a dental office visit for the benefit of patients.  Look forward to our dental continuing education courses online- coming soon!
