California Acupuncture Board Exam Stats 2014

The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), located in San Francisco, posted the highest pass rate of 79% for the February 2014 California Acupuncture Board exam in the large class size category. The results are in.The exam is required to become a licensed acupuncturist in California. The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, South Baylo University and Dong-guk University also posted some of the highest California Acupuncture Board exam pass rates at 70%. Five Branches University had the third highest pass rate at 59%. 

These numbers reflect the highest pass rates for schools with large numbers of exam takers. Yin Yang symbol Percentages ranged higher for certain schools with fewer test takers and the aforementioned top scores reflect percentages amoung schools with greater numbers of test takers. In the medium class size category, the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College located in Berkeley had a 75% pass rate followed by Alhambra Medical University and Southern California University of Health Sciences at 70%.

Pass rates and requirements vary for acupuncturists. In some states, herbal medicine is not required for licensure or is prohibited. In California, hebal medicine is included. Currently, the California Acupuncture Board tests for acupuncture, herbal medicine, and theorietical principles along with biomedical information. Herbal medicine in Calfornia based schools has long been a part of the curriculum. For many years, Five Branches University consistently had the highest pass rates along with ACTCM. The California Acupuncture Board oversees licensure for the state and the NCCAOM examination process is not currently required in California. The NCCAOM exams pertain to most states. In addition, the California Acupuncture Board enforces compliance with its rules and regulations and oversees acupuncture continuing education. California licensed acupuncturists may take up to 50% of their continuing education online as distance education courses, according to the board rules. The board also oversees compliance with advertising and codes of conduct for licensed acupuncturists.
